and talented
programs gifted children show the world their high performance abilities intellectually, socially, and emotionally. east baton rouge parish school system (ebrpss) is committed to provide identified gifted students
with services and/or activities designed to fully develop those capabilities. all ebrpss students (pre-k through grade 12) are eligible for a gifted screening. for those identified as gifted, an instructional program is designed to support the student?s unique needs and abilities. teaching practices include high levels of cognitive and effective concepts designed to deepen understanding and encourage students to make connections as they build their knowledge base. coursework with increased complexity extends beyond the curriculum offered in traditional classrooms. class size is reduced in order to individualize each student?s educational experience. classes are taught by teachers certified in gifted education. the talented arts program works with ebrpss students who have been identified as talented in visual art, music, or theatre (k-12). like the gifted program, all ebrpss students are eligible for a screening. talented classes are designed to enable the creative talented students to further develop skills, increase knowledge, and grow as artists. the scholastic academy program is an exciting and innovative approach that identifies potentially gifted students (pre-k through grade 12). created and designed in 1996 to expand learning opportunities, the scholastic academy learning contract contains objectives in critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, and oral and written language skills. using a variety of eligibility determinants, identified scholastic academy students attend gifted classes along with gifted students for two years in a ?blended? classroom setting in either gifted self-contained or resource classes. during year two, the students are evaluated to determine eligibility to remain in the gifted program. while a member of the scholastic academy, students must maintain a 2.5 gpa and exhibit behavior that conforms to standards set by the school and ebrpss. transportation follows same guidelines as for gifted and talented programs. p u b l i s h e d b y f a m i l y r e s o u r c e g r o u p , i n c . | e b r s c h o o l s . o r g | e a s t b a t o n r o u g e p a r i s h s c h o o l s y s t e m 9
