s the east baton rouge parish school system (ebrpss
) is committed to educate all students to their maximum potential in a caring, rigorous, and safe environment. the school district understands that in the education business, one size does not fit all. therefore, ebrpss offers a myriad of educational choices, including charter schools. designed to offer teachers, parents, and the community an opportunity to create new public schools in response to community needs, charter schools are accountable for academic results and for upholding the promises made in their charters. recognizing the potential benefits for children, ebrpss chose to become a charter authorizer. as an authorizer, the school district engages in proactive relationships and a value-added approach to all ebrpss partner charter schools. while ebrpss is not responsible for the ultimate success or failure of a charter school, the district takes its role seriously by providing strong oversight and accountability, while respecting the autonomy and uniqueness of each school. during charter school start-ups, ebrpss works closely with the founding groups to ensure a successful opening. once in operation, the district monitors financial and academic performance through communication, site visits, and data/document review. if the charter school fails to improve student outcomes, ebrpss can intervene in a variety of ways and, as a last resort, can close the school. ebrpss supports high-quality charter schools as another vehicle leading to students? graduating with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to become active and successful members of a dynamic learning community. p u b l i s h e d b y f a m i l y r e s o u r c e g r o u p , i n c . | e b r s c h o o l s . o r g | e a s t b a t o n r o u g e p a r i s h s c h o o l s y s t e m 7
