safety the fourth of july is right around the corner, and with those fun celebrations come the fireworks! keep the kiddos and yourselves safe this year by practicing firework safety. dr. monica williams with ochsner health center offers the following tips for staying safe around fireworks: ? enjoy them at a community display handled by pyrotechnic professionals, not in your backyard. ? never let children play with exploding fireworks and rockets of any kind, and closely supervise children playing with sparklers. ? when viewing public fireworks displays, remember to keep a distance of at least 500 feet away or up to a quarter of a mile from where they are being set off. ? respect the safety barriers set up to allow pyrotechnicians to do their jobs safely and leave the lighting of fireworks to trained professionals. ? if you find unexploded fireworks, don't touch them. contact your local fire or police department. woman?s hospital named a blue
