wins green ribbon mayfair lab school is among 45 schools nationwide to earn green ribbons, and is a first
-time winner. the green ribbon award is given to schools that work to reduce environmental impact, improve health and wellness by promoting a healthy physical environment, and offer effective environmental and sustainability education. mayfair lab students
gather data, examine soil, learn about resource management, and study sustainable habitats. students also compost, recycle, and garden, and have planted 30 garden beds, trees, shrubs, indigenous plants, and vertical tower gardens, as well as a butterfly garden. their hard work and dedication to making their school environmentally friendly, healthy, and engaging has definitely paid off. barefoot pedals scholarship awarded st. michael juniors maddie dowling and eva lee were each presented with a barefoot pedals scholarship. the barefoot pedals foundation was established in 2011 to honor the legacy of jeffrey david nola, a catholic high alumnus and educator, and the values and characteristics he lived his life promoting. the foundation established an annual scholarship that is given to students entering their senior year, who are members of the student ministry team or band and exemplify mr. nola?s quiet leadership, spirituality, commitment to academic success, and a skill playing a musical instrument. connect / e d u c at i o n park forest wins in new orleans jazz competition despite the flood, the park forest middle school band program is still keeping their winning tradition going. they recently participated in a jazz competition held in new orleans called class got brass and won first place with the prize of $5,000. student raises money for st. jude dunham sophomore caroline enos raised $1,855 for st. jude at our lady of the lake with her pajama day project. students and faculty members from pk3-12 were allowed to spend the entire school day in their pajamas for a donation to the project. caroline?s goal was to raise money to provide toys and other activities that could entertain young patients. episcopal student wins at literary rally jordyn byrd, a student at episcopal school of baton rouge, placed first in district 2 and first overall in state at the 2017 state literary rally in principles of business. jordyn placed first at the district rally in february and went on to compete against all district winners. his first place overall in state earned him a $500 cash scholarship. lee high students perform at carnegie congratulations to the lee high magnet students! the group of musicians recently traveled to new york city to perform in the prestigious carnegie hall. 34 brparents.com | june 2017
