st. joseph?s academy recently held its annual school science fair. student projects were judged by experts from various disciplines in a variety of areas including animal science, behavioral science, biochemistry, biomedical and health sciences, biomedical engineer - ing, chemistry, and materials science. ?they worked very hard and were very committed to their research projects. this was the best fair since i have been doing the science fair,? says science fair coordinator linda messina. uls student wins zeppelin contest anna baumgartner, a sixth grade student at the university laboratory school, recently won scope magazine?s ?zeppelin contest.? anna?s essay was chosen from entries that were submitted by sixth to eighth graders from around the country. the students had to answer the question, ?could zeppelins ever be as popular as they were in the time of the hindenburg?? anna wowed the judges with her response, and we salute her. scope magazine is a scholastic publication. brmhs students score perfect scores on act congratulations to baton rouge magnet high school seniors chi cao and nicolas cole roland and junior priya balamurugan on their outstanding accomplishments of scoring perfect scores of 36 on the act. free dyslexia screenings the brighton school will be offering free dyslexia screenings on wednesday, february 1 from noon-3 p.m. the screenings will be done by appointment only. to make an appointment, call theresa hastings at (225) 291-2524 or email thastings@thebrightonschool.org. connect / e d u c at i o n ?sky sight? art project baton rouge center for visual and performing arts (brcvpa) stu - dents came together to recreate a piece of artwork that celebrates louisiana music and culture. the students used landscaping materi - als and their own bodies to pro - duce a piece of art that can only be seen in its entirety from above. the art piece, entitled ?the accordion player,? was originally produced by artist robert grieve. the image was plotted out on the ground us - ing flag markers and spray paint, then filled in with mulch and sand, and finally the children to complete the living artwork. dunham cajun night celebrates louisiana culture third graders at the dunham school and their proud families celebrated louisiana and its culture during the annual cajun night. dressed in their favorite louisiana gear, students showcased their projects about the state?s famous historical attractions and enjoyed a delicious cajun dinner including popeye?s fried chicken, red beans and rice, jambalaya, and bread pudding. 36 brparents.com | february 2017 36 brparents.com | february 2017
