st. thomas more catholic school mission day has been a part of the school?s life since 1962 when the school?s founders wanted the children to learn about and provide assistance to missions throughout the world. a school-wide mass sets the tone with prayer for those in need. students
prepare for the day by learning more about the history of the school?s mission day, discussing how they are called to care for their brothers and sisters, and volunteering in some capacity to help the day be successful. this unique service program unites the students, staff and parents into a strong network of people working together to help other people. connect / e d u c at i o n sja sticker stampede the annual st. joseph?s academy?s sticker stampede will be held on sunday, december 4 at 7 a.m. at the school. this year will feature new family-friendly elements and a sunday mass celebrated on campus before the races. the post-race festivities include food and beverages, live music, a christmas marketplace, and a special kids? area with crafts and free santa pictures. all proceeds benefit the sja alumnae scholarship. ? stickerstampede.org pro-life week at smhs the warriors for life club at st. michael high school recently held a pro-life week for the school. throughout the week, the students highlighted just five of the many topics having to do with life and human dignity: bullying, abortion, euthanasia, capital punishment, and human trafficking. in accord with catholic social teaching, the school celebrates and defends life and human dignity in all its stages and for all people from conception to natural death. runnels senior wins award for volunteer service john wiese, a senior at runnels high school was named a winner of the 2016 outstanding high school volunteer award presented by the greater baton rouge state fair. the award recognizes students who have performed outstanding volunteer service, both in and out of school. john was nominated for being a positive role model, his leadership abilities, and his many hours of service through campus clubs. screening of waterman educational video a special screening of the new waterman educational video created by the louisiana office of conservation recently took place at scotlandville pre-engineering magnet academy. the video is part of the water wise in br campaign aimed at educating students about groundwater resources in the capital area, specifically the southern hills aquifer system. the billion mile race louisiana was ranked second in overweight children, but dozens of schools across the state are working to break this trend and improve children?s health by incorporating more quality physical activity into the school day through the billion mile race. the billion mile race challenges students across the country to walk and run a collective one billion miles. juban parc elementary school has logged 1,617 miles so far this year, southside junior high school has logged 22, galvez primary school has logged 2,628, and lakeside primary school has logged 5,311. 34 brparents.com | december 2016
