pathways to parenting
vaping
around
children
many parents have been making the switch from traditional cigarettes to e-cigarettes and have moved on to
vaping
. while these vaporizers offer a variety of appealing flavors and are marketed as a safer alternative because they are generally ?smokeless,? they are still just as harmful and should be treated like a typical cigarette. dr. stephen sanches of the pediatric clinic
says
, ?i would advise parents to absolutely treat this like a cigarette. there is a misconception that it is harmless water vapor, but it?s not. it contains nicotine and other potentially toxic chemicals.? just recently, the food and drug administration decided that electronic cigarettes and their vapors need to be regulated and kept out of the hands of
children
. however, there is still work that needs to be done on all of the effects of these e-cigarettes and vaporizers. ?while this has not been around long enough for us to have any conclusive studies showing each and every effect, the concern is significant. it?s not tobacco smoke, but there are other chemicals which are being vaporized and shared in the environment. on a much scarier note, the liquid nicotine used in these devices could be extremely toxic if ingested directly. i would suggest that, due to these concerns,
vaping
be treated like smoking and be done as far away from
children
as possible,?
