with the help of two friends,
tessa
gordon , a fifth grader at westdale heights elementary
school
, started a recycling composting program that the
school
continues to use today. what started as a project for the
school
?s robotics team has turned into a method to provide soil for the
school
?s garden. when
tessa
is not working to make the world around her a little more green, she draws in the style of realism?filling up a sketchbook every week.
tessa
also enjoys doing art projects her ela teacher, ellen rayner, assigns to the class because she combines the lesson with art.
tessa
is currently working on a world war ii graphic novel. she has even completed writing her very first book, the adventures of marco and polo . ?i really enjoy writing because it allows me to express myself,? says
tessa
.
tessa
plays violin with louisiana youth orchestra and has caught the acting bug. she recently took the stage as the earthworm in james and the giant peach , and hopes to audition for a role in the wizard of oz this summer. her mom, sonya gordon, says, ?
tessa
is very mature for her age. we call her our miracle baby because i was told i?d never have children.? with
tessa
?s optimistic and outgoing personality, we can bet to see her on the stage again, writing even more books, and playing violin to a room full of adoring fans in no time because she is certainly one amazing
