get
ting out of the house happy i did it again. i jumped out of bed late, knowing that i had to be at the office by 9 a.m. i get dressed, put the cat outside, grab the computer, ipad, iphone, appointment book, box a few items that i have been meaning to bring to the office, grab my husband?s prescription, run the dishwasher, coax my dachshund to go outside to do her business (she has a shy bladder), and so i wait and wait some more, put the cat back inside, turn off lights, lock the doors. oops, i forgot my water bottle; unlock the door and walk out again for my fourth trip to the car. rounding the corner in my subdivision, i pull over; did i get the office camera? i begin to pull everything out of my purse and place on the passenger seat. due to a bad choice in selecting my winter handbag this year, it is in the bottom, the very bottom of my purse. out of the subdivision and on the road. coffee
, i need coffee. this requires no further explanation. pull over at the next convenience store, look into my bag; i know i have cash in there. where is it? here we go again with the bag. the coffee is great, now i?m on my way again. only three miles to go. being a mom with a plan for morning
routines can make a huge difference in getting out the door. here are a few tips i?ve finally learned as a mom on how to have a peaceful morning and get out the door happy. the night before: ? go to bed early. it?s the difference between being the stepmother in cinderella and merida?s mother in brave who loved her daughter and her family. it?s not overrated. ? make coffee with a programmable coffee pot or buy a keurig. cut out the morning trip to starbucks. ? pick out my clothes (and everyone else?s). ? put lunchboxes, lunch money, and backpacks by the back door. ? load the car with things that i might be able to do on a break. the morning of: ? get up 20 minutes earlier; it makes all the difference. ? start with music. music helps keeps you on task. ? get your kids involved. all superheroes have their side - kicks and yours are your children. they are part of the happy morning process; make them a checklist according to their age and ability. face it, even great parents don?t always have great mornings. i am convinced that a happy morning starts the evening before, and if all goes well, you will have time for extra morning hugs and kisses. a mother?s voice/ p u b l i s h e r ? s n o t e stay connected enter to win free goodies and be the first to know what's going on around town at brparents.com the weekender receive the latest news and trends right in your inbox. subscribe at brparents.com facebook facebook.com/ batonrougeparents talk to me amy@brparents.com brpm app download our free app at google play or in the apple app store amy foreman-plaisance publisher/editor in chief 12 brparents.com | february 2016
