began with a traffic accident on a cold winter's day in 1930. it le the young anders

looking around for alterna ve ways to make a living. in 1932, he started the produc on of toboggans at his father-in-law's forge a er seeing children play outside on the snowy hills. but the danish winters are unpredictable, and in winters with no snow, no toboggans were sold. in 1935, anders winther decided to produce tricycles, scooters and other kinds of wheeled toys - again inspired by the play and movement of children around him. the company started to grow. staff were employed. family members helped out. but shortly a er overcoming the hardships of war me in the 1940s, anders winther passed away. his brother, frede winther, con nued his work, and in 1947, he introduced the first two-wheeled winther bicycles. going interna onal around 1955, winther started expor ng to other countries. the first client outside of denmark was örninn in iceland, who con nues to be a client of winther today. the tricycles became an interna onal success and, in 1959, frede winther designed a tricycle with a fixed steel tray that became a classic, produced for several decades. a modernised version is s ll in produc on today. anders winther, grandson of the founder of the company, took over as managing director in 1976. at that me, bicycles for school children had become an important product for winther. anders winther shared his grandfather?s interest in developing trikes and bikes for small children, and in the 1980s, he started producing tricycles for the educa onal market. from local family business to global market leader winther is a danish family business in its third genera on. since 1932, winther has produced high-quality products with a cra sman?s pride, focusing on the play and movement of children. 4
